Ryoute - Expressive Grappling Arts

Ryoute is composed of four arts: 'Double Hand Grappling', 'Concentric Circle Grappling', 'Grid Grappling' and 'Double Circle Grappling'. Ryoute is a vehicle for self expression, i.e. a medium in which creativity is possible. The purpose of self expression and creativity is to allow you to investigate your own identity and ultimately help you to refine and improve your quality of life.

'Double Hand Grappling' is a name that was given to an art developed by Martin Clewett and Robert Wall with help from Ian Alexander, Karl Hawkins and David Clewett and influenced by the work of Nathan Johnson and his associates. Forms developed specifically for this art bear a striking similarity to karate kata.

'Concentric Circle Grappling' is a name that was given to an art developed by Martin Clewett and Ian Alexander, inspired by the success of 'Double Hand Grappling' and influenced by the work of Nathan Johnson and his associates. Forms developed specifically for this art bear a striking similarity to forms such as Sui-Nim-Tao, Chum-Kiu, Biu-Tze, Muk-Yan-Chong (Wing Chun) and Sanchin and Rokushu (Naha Karate).

'Grid Grappling' is a name that was given to an art developed by Martin Clewett and Ian Alexander whilst developing 'Concetric Circle Grappling'. Forms developed specifically for this art bear a striking similarity to Kung Fu Animal Style Forms.

'Double Circle Grappling' is a name that was given to an art developed by Martin Clewett and Ian Alexander whilst developing 'Concetric Circle Grappling'. It is most similar in style to Tai Chi pushing hands.
