This is an FAQ. This means Frequently Asked Question. Some of these
questions aren't very frequently asked but are put here to eliminate
ambiguity about the art of Ryoute.
Q1. In a nutshell, what is Ryoute?
A1. Ryoute is composed of four grappling arts known as Double Hand
Grappling, Concentric Circle Grappling, Grid Grappling and Double
Circle Grappling.
Q2. What does Ryoute mean?
A2. Literally translated it means both hands.
Q3. Is Ryoute a fighting art?
A3. No
Q4. Is Ryoute a self defence art?
A4. No
Q5. Is Ryoute a combat art?
A5. No
Q6. Why do any form of grappling if not for practical reasons?
A6. It's fun.
Q7. Is Ryoute competitive?
A7. Yes, but not at the expense of detracting from the enjoyment
of the art.
Q8. Is Ryoute a martial art?
A8. This depends on your definition of a martial art. If you insist
that all martial arts must relate to fighting then the answer is,
no Ryoute is not a martial art. If you are more flexible and think
that martial arts do not have to be for fighting then the answer
is, yes Ryoute could be referred to as a martial art. This can lead
to confusion this is why I have used the more specific terms fighting,
self defence and combat art above.
Q9. Why do you reference other martial arts such as Karate and
Kung Fu on your website?
A9. Techniques specifically designed for Double Hand Grappling,
Concentric Circle Grappling and Grid Grappling performed in the
air and assembled forms in bear a striking resemblance to tradition
karate and kung fu forms. This is one of one of things we are attempting
to point out on this website.
Q10. Are you saying that traditional forms of karate and kung fu
are related to the arts that you practise in Ryoute?
A10. No this is un-provable.
Q11. I thought Ryoute was spelt Ryote?
A11. Technically it can be spelt either way. The version we have
chosen is correct according to most Japanese dictionaries. Martial
artists usually spell Ryoute, ryote however we are not exactly martial
artists.
Q12. Are you Ryute Karate?
A12. No, Ryute Karate is a completely different art and a completely
different organisation; we are not linked in anyway. The Ryu in
Ryute Karate refers to Ryukyu Islands of Japan whereas Ryou in Ryoute
literally means "both". Please type in "Ryute" in Google
or other to find Ryute Karate.
